I hope all is well – you must be very busy with your work; I haven’t seen any new posts except the You Tube piece on ethnicity, which I just enjoyed. It makes a wonderfdul point, one I’ve thought a lot about. As you know, after the potato famine in 1848, thousands of Irish emigrated to the U.S., causing a virulent backlash nativists. It’s a perfect parallel to the Mexican immigration nonsense today.

The real reason behind today’s issue is simple; the illegals from the south are short and dark-skinned. They don’t look at all like the northern European stock who came here in rags several hundred years ago.
It’s a curious fact that individual examples of homo sapiens, despite all being members of one species, insist on subdividing themselves by appearance, area of origin, religion and food preferences; a fellow named Adolf Hitler was an expert at that.

  2. Great to hear from you Marc! Of course we have a different way for subdividing ourselves in England – or rather two ways but they’re interrelated – class and accent.

  3. Just found this gem, great stuff. Kinda reminded me of the series of sketches Goodness Gracious Me did, This being one of them in the whole identity association game thing we play:
